Week 1 at OCS Empty
PostSubject: Week 1 at OCS   Week 1 at OCS EmptyThu Jul 09, 2009 8:21 am

The first day of OCS will start on Sunday around 1000. Upon reporting in you will be overwhelmed with lots of paper work i.e. medical dental and service record data. Next you'll be guided to the sea wall to park your cars if you drove or be driven to the barracks where your training will begin as soon as you step out of the duty van. Make sure you tie your shoes OUTBOARD OVER INBOARD WITH NO BRIDGES AND TUCKED INTO THE OUTBOARD SIDE OF THE SHOE. DO NOT TIE THEM ENLISTED STYLE I.E LEFT OVER RIGHT.

Shortly after entering the barracks you'll be issued your first and only poopy suit. Your indoc week will be the worst week of the entire 12 week program. Indoc is from Sunday to the next Saturday unless you role to H- class before hand.

Sunday: Check in and initial issue of supplies, NOTE: even if you bring everything you'll need for OCS you will still have to buy everything. After everything is issued to you over the 12 week period you will have accured a debt of approx $2,000-$3,000 which you will have to pay down to at least $700.00 before graduation. You do have the option to open a NEX Star card (Credit card) which you can use to pay off your account, also by doing this you'll receive a nice discount for using the credit card.

You can expect to spend $2,000-$3,000 while at OCS so be ready.

Monday: Medical, big day for pilots, NFO's and SWO's

Tuesday: In PFA/ Random stuff and more uniform issue

Wed: Wake up Wed. today you meet your Drill Instructor for the first time. Make sure you are fully hydrated you'll need it.

Thursday: Swim qualification

Friday: Your first room locker and personnel inspection (RLP) and outpost. For outpost your class will be lined up in formation and will carry you’re loaded down sea bags around the outside of the barracks up and down stairs in the barracks and make random pit stops in the sand pits. Once again stay hydrated. This day is when the majority of folks get rolled into H-class. Normally after this evolution is complete, the day is sometimes relaxed and are mostof the time left alone by the DI.

Saturday: Welcome aboard. Today you become part of the regiment and are called a class rather than an indoctrination class. Classes are called by the sequential number and by the year. for example the 15th class of 2010 would read as follows 15-10. The rest of welcome aboard i will not talk about because you need to experience it your self.

Sunday Estimated Schedule

Report Aboard 1030

Chow 1200
Height/weight/Med. 1300
PT Gear Issue 1400
Wet Test 1600
Admin Time 1700
Dinner 1730
Admin Time 1800
Sweepers 2100
Taps 2200

The "OUTBOARD OVER INBOARD WITH NO BRIDGES AND TUCKED INTO THE OUTBOARD SIDE OF THE SHOE" style has been a little confusing to me. does it mean right over left? please explain?
i heard there are changes at ocs lately. is that true?

Ok, what I mean by outboard over inboard is this. If you look down at your right shoe, the laces on the right side of the shoe are called the outboard side and the laces on the left are called the inboard side. When you lace your shoes make sure the outboard lace (right lace) runs over top the inboard lace. This should be the same from bottom to top. Tuck the loop of the knot into the outboard side of the shoe.

The opposite applies to the left shoe, meaning that now the outboard side is going to be on the left side of the shoe and the inboard on the right. Once again lace them so that the outboard side laces run over top of the inboard laces.

To answer to other question about OCS changing, the answer is yes it is.

Very soon the current one week long indoc week wearing poppy suits will be extended to three long weeks of hell with the Drill Instructor. The plus side of this is that after the three week indoc period is over you may never see your DI again with the exception of drill if then; there is talk that the class chief will take over that as well. The rest of the time at OCS will be spent with your class chief and class officer conducting leadership training. They want OCS graduates to be more leadership oriented rather than Marines.

There is also talk about increasing the size of OCS classes from roughly 50 to trying to maintain 100 candidates per class. This does not change the number of candidates who graduate throughout the year but simply reduces the workload on the instructors giving them longer breaks between classes.

The info about the in PFA is correct, but I still believe you can role for RLP. Also remember you have two RLP inspections. One during 4th week conducted by the DI's and another one
During week 8 by the class officers.

Good job ruining what should be an experience for people. The purpose of OCS is to weed out people who can't handle being an officer. Why would you post information that would prepare those who would not have normally made it. Mustang or not it was a bad decision and web sites like these are contributing to the low quality officers that are being commissioned in the Navy.

Monday: Medical, big day for pilots, NFO's and SWO's

Why is it big for SWO? Do they have the same comprehensive physical?

Yes, I am sure the physical varies slightly but can tell you that when I went through just as many SWO's NPQ'd as pilots and NFO's.
