PostSubject: Dcushman13's Stats   Dcushman13's Stats EmptyTue Mar 30, 2010 5:16 pm

Good evening everyone! My name is Daniel Cushman and I am currently an RP3 in the Reserves (I know, not really mustang material yet, but I'm looking for the wisdom of Navy experience and the other OCS boards have lots of civilians on them). I submitted a package through an officer recruiter back in December and was finally reviewed this month. I found out yesterday that I was not selected for both NFO and SWO. I will list all my stats below, and I am really hoping that someone could give me some advice on what I can do to strengthen my package for the next time around. Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Time in Navy: 1 year (Enlisted in July '08, shipped to RTC March '09)

Current Command: 25th Marine Regiment HQ Company

LORs: O-5 Reserve LDO, Ret. O-5 SWO, O-4 Active Duty NOSC CO, Reserve O-4 Chaplain, PSCM(SW) Ret., two professors, and one Priest involved in my volunteer work with Knights of Columbus.

Education: BA Theology from Saint Anselm College, Manchester NH - 2008
GPA: 2.6 cumulative, 3.1 major

OAR: 58
AQR: 7

And for what it's worth, ASVAB: 99

Navy Stats:
Honor Graduate, Religious Program Specialist "A" School - 95.3% Final Average
Accelerated Advancement Program
Funeral Honor Guard member - Performed military honors at 45 funerals at time of app (90 now)
National Defense Service Medal
Pistol Sharpshooter Ribbon
Only have one eval so far, but it is an MP.

Activities Outside the Navy:
United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps - Achieved rank of Chief while a cadet (2001-2004), transfered to MIDN status during college, commissioned as ENS after graduating. Currently serving as Operations Officer for one of the top units in the region. Served as Division Officer at Sea Cadet Recruit Training New England: in charge of over 112 cadets and 4 other officers.
Active in numerous clubs and activities during college.

I know that my non-technical degree and a lack of math courses were weaknesses in my package, but I had hoped that the "total person" concept would have helped me to overcome that.

As I said before, any and all advice is more than welcome!

-RP3 Cushman

I looked over your stats and they look great. I JUST completed OCS Mar 26th so I can't give you any first hand knowledge of what the boards are looking for, other than what I learned prior to commissioning. The "well rounded person" is pretty much what I've always understood they are looking for. I'll post my own stats just for others to look at and hope it will help. My military history is different than yours as I've been A/D for 9 years when I submitted my package and have some different stats, but your ASTB scores look really good. Your ASVAB is super high. And your other achievements (especially Funeral Honor Guard and Sea Cadets OPSO) are impressive to me and show a really dedicated candidate. I agree that the 2.6 cum and the non-tech degree may have something to do with it. I'd say keep putting your package in and your determination will speak for itself.
